‘Hopefully gets a run of games’: Some Rangers fans blown away by 22-year-old’s display last night

A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have waxed lyrical about Ibrox defender George Edmundson as he helped Steven Gerrard’s side triumph in Thursday’s pre-season friendly.

Rangers, competing in the Veolia Trophy, went top of the group following a hard-fought 2-0 win over Lyon in France.

Ryan Kent helped to open the scoring when he surged towards the byline and sliced a low cross past Ciprian Tatarusanu, which hit home captain Marcelo en route to the back of the net.

Joe Aribo and Borna Barisic then combined on the left to provide a chance for Ianis Hagi on a platter, the Romanian making no mistake with an effort which again took a nick off Marcelo.

One downside for Rangers saw Kent sent off for moving his hand towards Marcelo’s face, leaving the Ibrox side playing more than 50 minutes with ten men.

Kent must now wait to find out if the offence is reported back to the Scottish FA and yields a potential suspension ahead of the Premiership kickoff against Aberdeen at the start of August.

There were more positives than negatives, mind, and Edmundson’s solid display after shaking off a nervy start was lauded by many Bears.

Below is some of the reaction to the 22-year-old Brit’s display on the night:
