‘Honestly’: £7m West Ham United player admits both of their goals against Bournemouth could have been ruled out
West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has admitted on that both of his side’s goals against Bournemouth could have been ruled out.
The Hammers picked up another win on Monday night as they beat the Cherries 2-0 in East London.
David Moyes’ men have really begun to pick up form after a poor start to the season. They’ve now won three out of their last four games in the Premier League.
Goals from Kurt Zouma and Said Benrahma secured a win over Gary O-Neil’s men but Antonio has admitted that both could have been ruled out.
Antonio admits both West Ham goals could have been ruled out
West Ham’s first goal was headed home by Zouma but the ball appeared to strike Thilo Kehrer’s arm just before the Frenchman scored. But after a lengthy VAR check, the goal was given.
The Hammers were awarded a penalty later on in the game as VAR judged Jordan Zemura to have handled the ball in the area.
The Bournemouth full-back attempted to block Vladimir Coufal’s cross and the ball struck his arm from very close range.
And has now admitted that his side may have been slightly fortunate on Monday night.
“Honestly, I think neither of the goals could stand for us,” .
“The pen is harsh. He has slid and is a yard away and it’s hit him in his hand, it’s not in its natural position but he’s sliding and his hand is just up there.
“And the first goal it has hit his hand and we’ve scored from it. I don’t know what the rules are any more.”
It’s great to see a player being honest about decisions after a match, even when they benefit his side.
Bournemouth rightly felt aggrieved after the game as the ball clearly struck Kehrer’s arm right before Zouma headed home.
The penalty decision also seemed very harsh but West Ham certainly benefited on the day as they moved up to 10th in the Premier League table after the win.
Moyes will be delighted with his side’s recent form after a poor start to the season. The Scotsman faces a trip to his former side Manchester United on Sunday in what will be a stern test for the Hammers.
