‘His finishing was incredible’: Journalist blown away by Aston Villa’s £25m man after attending two training sessions

Aston Villa striker Danny Ings has had a frustrating time at the club since making the switch from Southampton last summer for a fee of £25 million ().

The 30-year-old hasn’t found the back of the net as frequently as he did at the Saints during his time at Villa Park so far.

But that could be about to change this season as .

Ings’ finishing looked ‘incredible’ in training

A fan told the journalist that the club still need to sign a striker as Ollie Watkins is ‘missing too many chances’ and Ings ‘has not done too much’.

But Preece responded and was blown away by Ings’ finishing after watching two Aston Villa training sessions during pre-season.

In the , he said: “Watkins cut a frustrated figure over in Oz, didn’t happen for him, it could quite easily click back into place. A big season for him given Qatar in November.

“I went to two training sessions and Ings’ finishing was incredible, looks razor-sharp but hasn’t had much to feed off.”

Ings managed seven goals and six assists in 30 Premier League games last season. And it’s a drop-off from the form that he showed at Southampton which earned him the move to Villa Park.

The English striker scored 12 goals the season before he made the switch and even bagged an impressive 22 goals during the 2019-20 campaign.

The Villa striker will be hoping to rediscover his lethal scoring touch this season and if his finishing in training is anything to go by, it could be a big season ahead for Ings.

The Midlands club brought him in to add more goals to the side so he will be hoping to step up.

Between Ings and Watkins, the duo only managed 18 Premier League goals last season and Steven Gerrard will be hoping to improve on these numbers.

If both strikers start to find the back of the net more regularly, it will help Villa massively in their quest to push further up the league and qualify for European football.
