‘He’s top level’: Nat Phillips says 23-year-old Liverpool player who barely ever starts is amazing in training
On an evening when a number of top sides were knocked out of the Carabao Cup, Liverpool squeezed through on penalties.
Jurgen Kloppꦡ heavily rotated his team, and gave a number of fringe and youth players a chance.
Klopp gave forward Layton Stewart his senior debut, while Melkamu Frauendorf, Bobby Clark and Stefan Bajcetic all started.
꧑A very inexperienced side did well to keep a clean sheet against League One Derby County, although Klopp did bring some more senior players off the bench.
One player that Liverpool fans would have been very happy to see included was goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
🔜Kelleher is already a Liverpool hero for his performance in last season’s Carabao Cup final.
He scored his spot kick against Chelsea before saving Kepa Arrizabalaga’s effort to win his side the trophy.
ꩵPhillips was delighted with Kelleher again last night as he once against delivered in a shootout.
💦And the centre-back has now said that Kelleher is always amazing in training, and his performance yesterday was no surprise.

🥂“Seeing him day in day out on the training ground, he’s top level and these opportunities where he plays he shows that himself.
🐈“He wasn’t called upon too often this evening other than the penalty shoot to but it’s a credit to him and his attitude and professionalism that he can still maintain those standards when he’s not playing week in, week out.”
༒Klopp will want to keep Kelleher at the club to call upon him when necessary, but the 23-year-old might be too good for the bench.
Robbie Keane has previously stated𒁃 that Kelleher should leave the club to play more minutes.
ဣKeane’s been impressed by Kelleher’s presence in goal, and is unfortunate that he’s got a world-class keeper in Alisson Becker ahead of him.
🍎Kelleher putting in amazing performances in training is all he can do to try and break into the first team.
🌳However, it’s going to take a serious downturn in form from the imperious Brazilian for Klopp to make that switch.
