‘He’s terrible’: TalkSPORT pundit slams 29-year-old Aston Villa player, says he’s worse on the ball than Harry Maguire

has slammed Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings and says he’s worse on the ball than Manchester United man Harry Maguire.

Mings was recently snubbed by Gareth Southgate for England’s final squad before selecting the players that will go to the World Cup in Qatar.

The 29-year-old has got off to a difficult start to the new campaign after losing the Villa captaincy to John McGinn.

after it was suggested that Southgate could turn to the defender after John Stones suffered an injury against Germany last night.

Mills slams Mings on TalksPORT

Mills was speaking about England’s centre-back options on the radio station and feels Everton’s Conor Coady could now come into the picture.

Presenter Laura Woods then asked: “Why didn’t he bring Mings back in?”

Mills responded: “Because he’s terrible.”

Woods argued that Mings didn’t put a foot wrong for England in the European Championships last year while Harry Maguire was sidelined.

But Mills added: “I think Maguire is better on the ball.”

Maguire was handed a vote of confidence over the past week by Southgate as he returned to the England side after a poor run of form at Old Trafford.

But the centre-back made a costly error last night as he gave the ball away then made a clumsy challenge that handed Germany a penalty.

Mings has also struggled with dips in form over the past year but could be called upon by Southgate if Stones’ injury is serious.

The former Villa captain has put in some improved displays for Steven Gerrard’s side recently and will be hoping to continue this form over the coming weeks.
