‘He’s still not ready’… Pundit says £40m player isn’t good enough to be playing for Chelsea right now

After another massive summer of changes at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea still aren’t very good.

The Blues reinvigorated their squad with new additions, a new manager and some young stars, but they still sit firmly in mid-table, and it’s fair to say their vision hasn’t come to fruition.

Speaking on , Tony Cascarino has been discussing the Blues’ squad revamp, and, as you can imagine, he’s been critical of the west London club.

Cascarino highlighted Levi Colwill as a player he doesn’t think is good enough for Chelsea, claiming that he’s still not ready to play a key part in this backline at the moment.

Colwill not good enough

Cascarino shared his verdict on the defender.

“Some of their ins and outs were hard to understand, the idea has backfired. Reece James has struggled since he’s come back. Levi Colwill, I don’t see him as a top player, I think he’s still not ready to be in the Chelsea back four and Thiago Silva is 39 years old, there are a lot of question marks,” Cascarino said.

Bizarre

It’s very easy to get carried away with the hype at the time, but, in hindsight, it’s bizarre that Chelsea have pinned their hopes on a player like Colwill.

He’s young and has plenty of potential, but, at the same time, he played just 17 league games for Brighton last season.

Colwill hardly showed that he’s ready to start every week for a top six team, but, as ever, Chelsea let their heart rule their head and rushed him into the side.

Now, Colwill has had his confidence knocked and he doesn’t look half the player he did last term, and it remains to be seen if he’ll ever recover from this.

Chelsea rushed things with Colwill, and that’s cost them dearly this season.
