‘He’s realised’: Peter Crouch says Gareth Bale is a different player now he’s back at Tottenham

Former Tottenham and England striker Peter Crouch has claimed that Gareth Bale is now a different player to the one we saw in his first spell with Spurs.

Bale got off the mark for Tottenham with the winning goal against Brighton yesterday. The Welsh star expertly heading home a Sergio Reguilon cross to win the game for Mourinho’s men.

And Crouch, who scored his fair share of headers during his career, is adamant that is something Bale has worked on and it makes him a completely different animal now that he’s back in England.

“He’s definitely improved with his heading, I have to say.  He wasn’t a great header of the ball when I played with him. He started at left-back, has worked on his game and turned into a world-class player at Madrid. I think he’s realised he’s 6ft-plus, he’s big, strong and his technique is good – it was a fantastic header,” Crouch .

“He was always scoring goals from outside the box and he wanted to get maybe more scruffy goals. He’s definitely a different player now than the player who left to go to Madrid.”

Bale replaced Erik Lamela with around 30 minutes to play and didn’t take long to have an impact on the game. His header won the game, while he also laid on a good chance for Gio Lo Celso, who fired just wide.

Bale is getting there. Give it a few more games and the winger will be in the starting XI most weeks.

Lamela wasn’t great and almost failed his big audition for Mourinho, while Lucas Moura seems to have fallen down the pecking order a bit as well under the Spurs boss.

Once Bale is up to speed, we’ll be seeing more of these winning goals throughout the campaign without doubt.
