Jamie Carragher doubles down on Mohamed Salah contract situation as Liverpool beat Man City

Mohamed Salah has been discussing his Liverpool contract again after beating Man City and Jamie Carragher has once again had his say.

Carragher caused debate among Liverpool fans last week by suggesting that the club should not be bowing down to demands of players and that the club will always move on.

The Sky pundit cited the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard in his opinion on Salah, in a move that got him quite a bit of backlash.

Today, Salah has once again mentioned his contract, suggesting after the City game that this was his last time facing Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, rather than back Salah’s latest comments, Carragher has doubled down and told Liverpool to just carry on.

Jamie Carragher sends fresh message to Liverpool over Mo Salah

Speaking on after Salah spoke once again of his contract situation, Carragher backed the club and his original opinion of not bending over backwards for any player.

“I have no problem with Salah and Van Dijk. They are two of the greatest for Liverpool. Liverpool are a club run by data. I’m not saying he shouldn’t get a two-year deal or give him big money,” Carragher said.

“He’s on big money now. The club is not built on giving them what they want. That’s where the success of the club has come from. They are ahead of the game.

“Buying Mo Salah for £40m when no-one else looked at him because they are ahead of the game. Liverpool, keep doing what you are doing. You move the dial for a Salah or Van Dijk.”#

Salah cannot be replaced

Carragher makes a good point about the club carrying on and it will always go forward, with or without Mo Salah.

The problem is that Salah is so good that getting a replacement who even comes close is going to be neatly impossible.

Salah is scoring or setting up goals in every game at the moment and those sorts of player are just not readily available on the market.

For Liverpool, it’s one of the biggest decisions they’ve faced in recent years and could well have a huge impact on the future of the club.
