‘He’s more or less done’: Journalist thinks Gerrard will sell Aston Villa ‘warrior’ this summer

Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson has been tipped by journalist Josh Holland to leave Villa Park this summer.

The 27-year-old joined the Villans from Marseille in January 2021 for a reported £16million.

Sanson – who described himself as a “” – arrived at Villa with a decent enough reputation.

He had registered 25 goals and 22 assists in 157 appearances across all competitions for Marseille.

However, Sanson has struggled for game time at Villa Park, with just 20 claret-and-blue appearances to his name.

Last season, the Frenchman started just three Premier League games and made 12 outings overall.

Sanson is now behind Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba, John McGinn, Tom Iroegbunam, Carney Chukwuemeka and Jacob Ramsey in the pecking order.

In addition, Boubacar Kamara has joined the Villans from Marseille this summer.

Therefore, it’s incredibly unlikely that Sanson will get regular game time at Villa any time soon, and he’s likely to leave.

claimed back in March claimed that Sanson would be open to leaving Villa this summer.

Ligue 1 side Nantes are reportedly keen to bring him back to his homeland.

Holland, writing on , believes several Villa first-teamers are at risk of leaving this summer.

However, he believes Sanson’s claret-and-blue future is definitely over.

“I think Tyrone Mings will be given another chance at Villa; I don’t think he’s been that bad to be sold,” wrote Holland.

“But Sanson, I think he’s more or less done.

“I think, apart from the main core of players, that’s Martinez, Digne, now obviously Kamara, Coutinho, Watkins and Buendia, I think they’re the only players that could be possibly safe from a massive reshape at Villa.”
