‘He’s magnificent’: £30m Everton star raves about ‘unbelievable’ player Liverpool are trying to sign

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was asked about Jude Bellingham as England prepare to take on the United States.

Bellingham has been a high-profile target for their Merseyside rivals Liverpool and he netted on his World Cup debut on Monday afternoon.

At a before Friday’s game, Pickford hailed Bellingham’s display in that 6-2 win over Iran which got England’s campaign off to a flying start.

Pickford was asked about Bellingham’s maturity, given he plays like such an experienced player on the pitch and has such a level head.

Pickford on Bellingham

Pickford said: “He’s a great lad, young lad, but he’s very mature.

“I think with him being at Dortmund, you can see he’s got leadership qualities already. He’s been the captain at Dortmund already.

“His performance the other night was unbelievable. For his debut in the World Cup, it was magnificent. He’s quality.”

man Pickford let in two goals on Monday but also made an outstanding save when he tipped a one against one onto the bar.

That is already as many goals as he let in during Euro 2020, when England’s backline kept five consecutive clean sheets to kick off the tournament.

Not too much can be read into that because of the state of the game, but Pickford made it clear they are aiming for a clean sheet against USA, when Bellingham should start again and get another chance to shine.
