‘He’s liked’: Liverpool could add Newcastle man who Gary Neville loves to their ranks this summer

Liverpool are in for quite the summer this year with Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff, as well as the sporting director, all departing.

FSG must oversee a period of big change at the club and there are some big decisions for the board to make as the summer months approach.

Of course, getting Klopp’s replacement right is going to be key. But just as important is getting that sporting director in place to work alongside the new manager.

Currently, that man is Jorg Schmadtke. The 59-year-old took over from Michael Edwards and Julian Ward but is moving on when Klopp goes.

And according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool could make a move for Newcastle supremo Dan Ashworth.

Liverpool eyeing Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth

Speaking to , Jacobs shared the likelihood of Liverpool making a move for Ashworth.

“I don’t see Liverpool returning for Ward because he’s left more recently. That’s a Manchester United candidate. I don’t think Ashworth is beyond the realms of possibility because he’s liked by Liverpool. I also think there’s less chance that Liverpool will come in for Mitchell because they’ve looked at him in the past and chose not to move. So, it would be surprising if they returned for him,” Jacobs .

Ashworth is highly-rated

Liverpool will be shopping in the market of the very best in the business and Dan Ashworth ticks a lot of boxes in the Premier League.

Indeed, he’s caught the eye of Gary Neville for his work with Brighton and Newcastle.

“On my way up to the gantry last night I bumped into . He transformed the FA’s structure, set Brighton up for this incredible period of success and has now built a strong foundation for the new owners at Newcastle. He’s competent, highly qualified and knows what he’s doing. Will work with his coach , recruitment team and other departments coherently and calmly,” Neville .

Ashworth, then, could be the ideal man for Liverpool to turn to to complete the post-Klopp rebuild.
