‘He’s incredible’: Pundit seriously impressed by £180k-a-week Tottenham player vs Brentford yesterday

Former England defender Matthew Upson was left seriously impressed by Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Ivan Perisic’s performance against Brentford on .

Spurs were the victims of their own downfall once again yesterday as they went behind for the ninth game in a row.

Antonio Conte’s men found themselves 2-0 down by the hour mark after Vitaly Janelt’s early opener and Ivan Toney’s effort at the beginning of the second-half.

But Tottenham managed to mount a comeback once again after Harry Kane scored a brilliant goal in the 65th minute and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg levelled the scoring just five minutes later.

Spurs actually looked the more likely side to go on and win the game after putting in a poor display for the opening hour. Kane nearly grabbed a late winner as his effort came off the underside off the crossbar.

Conte had to settle for a point in the end after another poor start to a Premier League game. But Perisic received high praise from Upson during the latter stages of the match.

Upson on Perisic

Perisic had only returned to Tottenham this week after featuring for Croatia in the latter stages of the World Cup.

The 33-year-old helped the European side secure third-place after beating Morocco 2-1 just 10 days ago.

But Perisic returned to the starting line-up yesterday and played the full 90 minutes at wing-back, which led to Upson praising the veteran on .

“Fitness wise, he’s incredible isn’t he? He’s like a machine, Perisic,” Upson said while co-commentating on the game.

“I mean in his real prime, certainly playing for Croatia, I just remember him being relentless. His running ability is fantastic.”

Perisic put in an impressive display from left wing-back and his delivery was a huge asset for Spurs yesterday.

has been one of Tottenham’s most creative outlets this season, despite not being at his best so far.

Conte will be hoping he is now back to full sharpness after featuring heavily for Croatia in Qatar as the Italian certainly needs more from his wing-backs.
