‘He’s had a good pre-season’: Jesse Marsch says it’s been really ‘fun’ coaching one Leeds United player this summer

Jesse Marsch has opened up on his relationship with Leeds United forward Rodrigo and his performances this summer, .

The Spanish forward is Leeds’ record signing, .

He has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, starting less than half of Leeds’ league games in his first season at Elland Road, and only returning six goals from 27 starts last season.

However, Marsch has praised the 31-year-old’s pre-season, which included a hat-trick against Cagliari on Sunday, “Let’s say he’s had a good pre-season,

“I think the way that we work and talk and the relationship we have, it’s been really fun for me, not always easy, but pushing him and he’s very receptive to positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, honesty and it’s like, the more you give him, the more he wants.”

Rodrigo was one Leeds player at the start of the transfer window that could have potentially left Elland Road.

If the right offer came in, you would expect Leeds to consider it given the significant outlay that was needed to bring him in.

With Patrick Bamford returning from injury, and Joe Gelhardt likely to be awarded more minutes, Rodrigo’s game time could be limited.

There’s a good chance Rodrigo starts Leeds’ opener against Wolves on Saturday, .

However, Leeds are also still searching for a centre forward to add to the squad, and that could have a significant impact on the Spanish international as well.

However, he will be encouraged by Marsch’s comments that he still has a future at the club, “He and I have a really good relationship.”
