‘He’s finished’: Celtic legend delivers damning verdict on 30-year-old

Leigh Griffiths is finished at Celtic.

That’s the view of Parkhead legend Pat Bonner, who was thoroughly unimpressed with the striker’s performance against Falkirk in the Scottish Cup.

Three second-half goals ensured progression for John Kennedy’s men, but Griffiths spurned an early opportunity and was far from his best against the Bairns.

As reported by last month, there has been speculation suggesting that he will follow captain Scott Brown to Aberdeen at the end of the current campaign.

Brown has already confirmed that he will be taking up a role as player-coach at Pittodrie under Stephen Glass.

It’s been a disappointing campaign for Griffiths, who has made just 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals.

After watching the 30-year-old fail to take his opportunity on Saturday, former Celtic keeper Bonner told that his time at the club looks to be up.

He said of the former Hibs and Wolverhampton Wanderers man: “I think he’s finished as a Celtic player.

“He’s gone down the pecking order.”

Speaking after the match, interim boss Kennedy put Griffiths’ performance down to a lack of confidence.

In a clip shared by , he referenced his early chance and said: “If that goes in, the confidence lifts and then everything else is great.

“I just thought after that he kind of beat himself up a little bit. There were another couple of chances that came in that you’d expect him to be really clean with, because that’s what he’s all about in terms of finishing.

“And he didn’t quite connect properly. And that can happen because maybe he’s not had enough game time, and once you don’t put that first one in it just plays in your head a little bit.”

Celtic return to Premiership action on Saturday when they play host to Livingston.
