‘He’s fantastic’: Nuno lauds Tottenham player not used since September

Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur need Steven Bergwijn, claiming that the Dutchman started the season very, very well – .

It has been a frustrating start to the campaign for Bergwijn. He started the season in impressive form, helping Tottenham to three straight wins in the Premier League.

However, he has not featured again in the league since the end of August due to injury. He picked up a knock on international duty.

The positive news is that the 24-year-old was back on the bench for Sunday’s win at Newcastle.

Nuno confirmed that Bergwijn will now start Thursday’s clash with Vitesse in the Europa Conference League. And he went on to explain just how much of a boost it is to have the forward back in the ranks.

“Stevie started the season very very well. Very, very well,” he said, . “He got injured in national team, and since then he’s struggled again. But now he’s getting back, like I said to you before, it’s about getting him fitter, stronger, faster because he’s a very talented player. Very talented player. Unique inside our squad.

“He has things that really can really help us. He’s fantastic in 1v1, offensive, he’s fast, he gives us speed. He gives us… We need Stevie. I repeat myself: we need Stevie.”

Bergwijn return a huge boost for Tottenham

Tottenham are doing better in the league. They now sit fifth after their win on Tyneside.

But it will be a huge boost to have Bergwijn back. They will certainly hope that he can contribute in the final third upon his return.

Son Heung-min is Spurs’ top goalscorer in the top flight. The South Korean has scored four times already.

But he is the only player to have more than one goal to his name in the league.

Bergwijn’s return should see Tottenham become a much bigger threat going forward if he can pick up where he left off.

Nuno clearly believes that he will do in the weeks to come.
