‘He’s fantastic, I’m a big fan’: £75m player absolutely loves Liverpool 23-year-old

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk heaped praise on Caoimhin Kelleher after the 23-year-old’s performance against Chelsea last night.
The young Irishman was handed a start after Alisson Becker tested positive for COVID-19. There were a few concerns about Kelleher before kickoff, but he looked incredibly assured throughout the game.
Liverpool fans and neutrals were really impressed by how he didn’t let the occasion faze him. Van Dijk, who started in front of Kelleher, was impressed too, and he raved about his young teammate after the game.
Here’s what the Dutchman, who cost Liverpool £75 million in 2018 (), said about Kelleher…
Van Dijk: Kelleher is a fantastic goalkeeper
The defender told after the game: “I’m quite a big fan of him. He is a fantastic goalkeeper.
“He is learning from the best, in my opinion, with Alisson.
“His presence is good, he is confident on the ball and he is making good saves as well. That’s good and we need him right now because of obviously the COVID cases.
“Unfortunately, we conceded two but the first one he can’t really do anything about it. We need him for the next games as well.”

TBR View:
Kelleher is having a season to remember at Liverpool.
It’s very easy for second-choice goalkeepers to lose their focus. The youngster would’ve known at the start of the season that there’s no way he’s displacing Alisson, but he still continued to work hard, and he is getting his rewards now.
Kelleher earned rave reviews in the Carabao Cup after his heroics in the penalty shootout against Leicester City. That probably helped his confidence and he looked incredibly comfortable throughout the game yesterday despite Chelsea’s pressure.
When Alisson’s back, Kelleher will be asked to sit on the bench again. However, everyone at Liverpool now knows that they have an excellent goalkeeper to succeed the Brazilian when the time comes.
