‘He’s always been tempted’: Romano says ‘unbelievable’ player would love to join Spurs, loves Conte

Fabrizio Romano has sought to allay any fears amongst Tottenham fans on the lack of recent Adama Traore updates.

Spurs have reportedly identified the Wolves winger and Spain international as a priority signing in this transfer window.

Antonio Conte is apparently keen to deploy him as a wing-back as he puts his own stamp on the club.

reported on Tuesday afternoon that Spurs were closing in on a £20m deal for Traore.

Spurs reportedly had a bid of £15m rejected last week. Wolves are understood to value him at £25m.

The report claimed there was an expectation a compromise fee could be reached by Monday’s transfer deadline.

Early on Wednesday afternoon, BBC Sport’s Simon Stone claimed there had been “no progress” in negotiations.

On Wednesday afternoon, Matt Hayes asked Romano about the state of play between Tottenham and Traore.

“The situation with Adama is particular, I would say,” Romano said on the .

“Because they’re working on this for a long long time, he’s a main target.

“During the weekend they were feeling confident to complete this deal.

“Now the situation is a bit quiet, mainly part of a strategy – we know how Paratici works.

“It’s a different way from English directors – so many times he’s going on different targets at the same moment.

“But Adama is a player they have on a list – im sure he’s still in Tottenham’s ideas.

“The problem is they don’t want to pay 25-27m euros for a player whose contract runs until 2023 and doesn’t want to extend his contract with Wolves at the moment.

“This is why on Tottenham’s side they want to pay the right money – 17-18m euros.”

“Adama will be happy to join”

Hayes then asked Romano whether Traore had agreed personal terms with Spurs.

‘It’s not a problem, this is the answer I have,” said the transfer guru.

“It’s not that it’s fully agreed, but it’s not the player in this case.

‘Adama will be happy to join, he knows all about Conte.

“This is an important point, he’s always been tempted by this chance of working with Antonio Conte.

“We know Antonio is amazing working with wingers.

“He made Achraf Hakimi one of the best right-backs in the world last season.”

Traore is a high-calibre player who Jurgen Klopp has called ““ and Jack Grealish has deemed ““.

It’ll be great to see how he flourishes under Conte.
