Henchoz namechecks Liverpool when praising Akanji

Former Liverpool ace Stephane Henchoz has tipped Manuel Akanji to play for the Reds.

In an interview with , the retired centre-back lauded the Switzerland defender who has starred during the international break.

His performance during the 0-0 draw with Italy drew praise from Italy legend .

Henchoz has come out and said he is not surprised by the words from Chiellini about Akanji.

The 47-year-old has gone as far as claiming the Borussia Dortmund ace is better than Raphael Varane and Persnel Kimpembe.

Henchoz has tipped Akanji to make a move to either Liverpool, Bayern, Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona or Real Madrid.

The Merseysiders made a centre-back signing in the summer, acquiring Ibrahima Konate from Red Bull Leipzig.

When talking about Akanji, Henchoz said: “I’m not surprised what Chiellini said. Everyone has spoken of world champion Varane and PSG player Kimpembe against France, but Akanji was the best.

“It just doesn’t have the name internationally because it only plays in Dortmund. Liverpool, Bayern, Manchester City or United, Barcelona, Real – I trust him, he has all the qualities.”

Liverpool saturated at centre-half

It is crazy how things have changed.

Last season, there was a point where Jurgen Klopp was scrambling to find centre-backs after injuries to each of his top-three choices. Now they have five fit and available players.

It is a great change in fortune for the German.

As a result, Liverpool are already saturated at centre-half as Henchoz endorses Akanji.

The (£75k) Swiss ace has been in great form this season and probably does deserve a move. Unfortunately, it probably will not be to Anfield.
