‘He’ll have to move’… David Ornstein says many in football think 25-year-old will leave Liverpool soon

David Ornstein has suggested that many in football now believe that there is a good chance that one Liverpool player leaves in the near future in search for more game-time.

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Liverpool heading into next season. Of course, Jurgen Klopp will step aside at the end of this campaign. And with that, it would be little surprise if there are some significant changes amongst the squad.

One of those potentially facing an uncertain future is arguably Caoimhin Kelleher. The Republic of Ireland international was brilliant on Sunday as Liverpool lifted the Carabao Cup.

Many see Caoimhin Kelleher soon leaving Liverpool

Kelleher made a miraculous save from Cole Palmer in the first-half at Wembley. And Virgil van Dijk was full of praise for how good Kelleher was. But of course, there is a big hurdle in the way of the 25-year-old.

Kelleher is surely one of the best understudies in the Premier League, if not the best. But with Alisson Becker ahead of him, David Ornstein told that many within the sport believe that the goalkeeper is likely to move on, sooner rather than later.

“What is next for a lot of these players that might want more game-time? Okay, not the very youngest ones because there’s still time. But somebody like Kelleher, there was interest in him, I think, from the likes of Wolves and Nottingham Forest in the summer,” he said.

“A lot of suggestions around many people you speak to in the game is he’ll have to move because he’s becoming a first-choice goalkeeper. And while Alisson’s at Liverpool, it’s not going to be there. He’s 25 now.”

Plenty of takers

There are definitely going to be a lot of takers for Kelleher in the summer. He definitely appears to have benefitted from the faith Jurgen Klopp has shown in him in big games. Sunday was not his first final.

Clubs know that goalkeepers do not necessarily hit their peaks until their late 20s. So there is plenty of time for Kelleher to improve further.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, he appears to be knocking on the door at just the wrong time.
