Hector Bellerin ready to ‘step up’ from Arsenal as defender is linked to UCL club

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin is reportedly keen on a move to Ligue 1 side PSG, with the Spanish international expected to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

, the 26-year-old right-back is ready for a ‘step up’ in his career and that PSG are the frontrunners for the fullback’s signature, with the report stating that Bellerin could leave Arsenal for €25m (£21.5m).

Bellerin has in recent weeks lost his first-team spot in the Arsenal XI, with Calum Chambers emerging as Mikel Arteta’ favoured player for the right-back position as the former Southampton defender started for the Gunners against West Ham, Liverpool and Slavia Prague.

With Cedric Soares also impressing for Arsenal at both left and right-back this season, a transfer away from the Emirates Stadium is looking increasingly likely for Bellerin this summer, who only has two years remaining on his current deal with the Gunners.

PSG was linked with Bellerin last summer, with that last season’s UEFA Champions League finalists were in talks with the defender. However, a deal failed to materialise.

The prospect of Bellerin leaving Arsenal will be a hard one for most supporters to think of. After all, the defender has remained a huge fan favourite with the north London side for both his performances on the pitch and his development as a role model as a socially conscious football off it.

But, with this week that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in signing a right-back this summer, a move to PSG makes complete sense for Bellerin considering that he has, for now, lost his first-team spot for the club as well as the Gunners likely to need a few players to move on to increase funds.

Bellerin will always have a special place in the hearts of Arsenal supporters, but with the squad needing strengthening, the Spaniard might have to make way for the betterment of the club for next season.
