Hector Bellerin praised on Barcelona debut after Arsenal exit

Hector Bellerin has been praised for his display on his Barcelona debut following the right-back’s move from Arsenal in the final stages of the summer transfer window.

Barca moved themselves top of La Liga with a 4-0 victory over Cadiz on Saturday. Of course, the game was overshadowed by a medical emergency in the crowd during the second-half.

Xavi’s men were ruthless after a goalless first-half, scoring four times. But the game also presented the Catalan giants with a first opportunity to look at Bellerin.

The 27-year-old made his debut for the club after leaving Arsenal. And he had some bright moments in the contest, with praising his display.

“He was smart and played with simplicity in his debut with Barça. Fulfilling in defense and committing necessary fouls, while in attack he gave continuity to the game,” , as they gave him a 6/10 rating.

The writing had been on the wall for some time for Bellerin at Arsenal. He spent last season out on loan with Real Betis. And the Gunners have moved on following the arrival of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

However, the connection between Bellerin and Arsenal arguably meant that the door on a return could never be shut completely while he remained on the books.

So there may have been a time when Arsenal fans may have wondered whether their right flank could feature both Bellerin and Raphinha at some stage. The Brazilian, of course, was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in the summer.

Ultimately however, the pair both now find themselves as teammates at Barcelona. And they are off to a positive start, with Xavi’s side going top of the table with Saturday’s 4-0 victory.
