Hectic Liverpool schedule could mean game time at last for Shaqiri
Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri will hope to feature more prominently after the international break, with the Reds about to embark on a run of seven games in the space of 22 days.
Jurgen Klopp’s team return to Premier League action this weekend with a game against Newcastle and they then start their Champions League campaign against Napoli the following Tuesday.
They then take on Chelsea followed by MK Dons in the Carabao Cup, before games against Sheffield United and RB Leipzig.
Liverpool’s last fixture before the next international break comes against Leciester City on October 5.
It will be a first test for the Reds, who have made an impressive start to the new season.
The club sit top of the Premier League having won every game so far, with champions Manchester City two points behind.
Given the schedule, Klopp will likely have to call on some of his fringe players at some point – and Shaqiri must take his chance.
TBR’s view
Shaqiri made a decent start to life at Anfield but faded in the second half of last season.
The Switzerland international, who admirably turned down his latest call up to focus on his club, has admitted he would like to play more () and this could be his chance to remind everyone what he’s all about.
Klopp has acknowledged the player’s concerns, and this is surely the time to ease them.
Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane did not have the greatest of rest periods over the summer so surely the manager will turn to the 27-year-old soon.
