‘He will be upset’: Gabby Agbonlahor doesn’t think Aston Villa player will be happy after what Gerrard’s just done
Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard made a big call yesterday as he took the captain’s armband from Tyrone Mings and handed it to John McGinn.
And former Villa striker .
The 29-year-old was originally made captain by former boss Dean Smith last summer after Jack Grealish left the club for Manchester City.
But just a year later, the England defender has lost the armband after a slight dip in form over the past season.
Agbonlahor thinks Mings will be upset

“I think he (Mings) will be a bit upset because when you become captain at Aston Villa, you could tell he enjoyed it,” he said.
“You know, the talking from the back, the armband, it’s a proud moment isn’t it. So, to lose it, yes he will be upset. But for me, it doesn’t change much. You can still be talking, you can still be shouting at McGinn to get back and order your teammates about.”

Agbonlahor thinks Gerrard will have liked what he has seen from McGinn in terms of his attitude on the pitch.
“I think the first thing is that Steven Gerrard, one of the best midfielders to play in the Premier League, was captain of Liverpool, centre-midfielder,” he said.
“He’s looking at his midfield, McGinn, Luiz, Kamara, he’s looking at McGinn, who likes to get about, he likes to kick people, he likes to leave everything on the pitch and I feel like Steven Gerrard will love that from John McGinn.”
The 27-year-old Scottish midfielder has been at the Midlands club for four years now after moving from Hibernian in 2018.
Just like Mings, he was at the club when they won promotion back to the Premier League during the 2018-19 campaign and has been a pivotal part of Villa’s success over the last few seasons.
The Scotsman has also been congratulated by Mings as the defender took to Twitter and said McGinn is ‘infectious’.
It seems there are no hard feelings between the pair and Mings’ post shows he holds Villa’s best interests at heart.

Since taking the armband last year, Mings’ form has been slightly patchy for Aston Villa. It could be a coincidence but maybe the player suits having less responsibility in the team.
McGinn seems like a natural leader and a good fit for the role. He has worn the armband for Scotland before in a friendly against Poland, so he is no stranger to the role.
Gerrard has made a big call heading into the new season but it seems like Mings respects his boss’ decision and is happy for his teammate McGinn.
