‘He will be the captain’: Mourinho confirms ‘amazing’ Spurs man will don the armband tonight

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Ben Davies will captain Spurs in tonight’s Europa League clash.

The left-back has made 223 competitive appearances for Tottenham since joining in 2014, and has captained the side on a number of occasions this season.

Davies wore the armband in four Europa League Group J matches, as well as twice in the FA Cup and once in the Premier League, against Everton.

With Hugo Lloris set to be on the bench for the Europa League last-32 meeting with Wolfsberger, Mourinho says Davies will skipper the team as they look to see the tie out.

“Ben is amazing. Because tomorrow Hugo is on the bench, he will be the captain,” the Portuguese told the official Spurs .

“It’s a good thing for Ben to celebrate his 50th international match with the club.”

Davies is a solid, reliable player, and it’s no surprise that Mourinho has been regularly turning to him as stand-in captain.

With Spurs 4-1 up from the first leg, the 27-year-old will look to provide a calming influence in pursuit of finishing the job and reaching last 16 of the competition.
