‘He will be outstanding for us’: Klopp hails ‘world-class’ Liverpool player who made just 8 PL outings in 21/22

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has lauded the “outstanding” Joe Gomez in wake of his new Reds contract.

The 25-year-old penned fresh terms on Thursday, commiting his future to Liverpool until 2027.

Gomez joined Liverpool from Charlton in June 2015 and has impressed during his time at Anfield so far.

He has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup with Liverpool.

However, Gomez has also been unfortunate with injuries during his time at Anfield.

he has twice damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, as well as fracturing his leg.

In addition, Gomez had fierce competition at centre-back last season.

The England international was vying for game time alongside Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate.

As a result, he made a relatively low , including just eight in the Premier League.

However, there is no doubting that Gomez is a top talent and a key member of the Liverpool dressing room.

“He wants to be a Liverpool FC player”

Klopp, speaking to the Reds , was delighted with Gomez committing his future to Anfield.

The Liverpool boss stressed that Gomez has been outstanding for the Reds and will continue to be.

“Joey is really a world-class defender, no shadow of a doubt,” said Klopp.

“He believes in this project, he believes in himself and he wants to be a Liverpool FC player.

“And we want the team to stay obviously.

“I know what people say in these moments: ‘But you have him, you have him, you have him.’

“We’ll need the quality and we have the quality.

“And Joe Gomez when he played was outstanding for us and he will be outstanding for us.”
