‘He will be back’: Glenn Hoddle thinks Antonio Conte is definitely going to start £15m Spurs player vs Everton now

Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways on Saturday, as they defeated a stubborn Brighton team.

A 1-0 win came courtesy of a clever Harry Kane finish, and Antonio Conte’s side dealt with some intense Brighton pressure brilliantly.

Hoddle was impressed with the return of Matt Doherty, and thinks he’ll start against Everton next weekend.

Doherty hasn’t had the easiest start to the season after picking up a serious injury at the end of the last campaign.

Antonio Conte wasn’t very complimentary about Doherty last week.

“Also Doherty last season played every game.

“Now I’m not seeing him in the right way to start the game. I’m not stupid, I don’t want to lose. I try to put the best team, to pick the best team.”

It didn’t sound encouraging for Doherty, but after Emerson’s Royal red card, he was selected by Conte to replace him.

“He does some good things. But he also does some unusual things and he’s trying to work his own game out.

“He was getting better and better actually, getting the confidence, before he got the injury.

“I think he now has to start again. He has an opportunity. Emerson is out for a few games. Two more is it now?

“So, he has a chance to, maybe he won’t play in the European game (against Frankfurt), but against Everton, he will be back in there.”

He had a great chance to score from a Ryan Sessegnon cross in the first-half, but couldn’t direct his shot towards goal.

With the game still in the balance in the final moments, he made a pivotal block that helped earn Spurs three points.

Doherty’s attacking flair makes him a more natural fit for Conte’s wing-back role compared to Royal.

The Brazilian’s suspension might have given him the perfect chance to earn his place back in the starting line-up.

Glenn Hoddle is of the firm belief that Doherty will start against Everton next weekend.
