‘He wasn’t convinced’: Marsch hopes ‘frightening’ Leeds player now does transfer U-turn
Over the coming weeks, there is likely to be plenty of speculation linking Leeds United ace Cody Drameh with a January exit.
The Whites full-back has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for a number of Premier League clubs, such as Newcastle United.
Drameh stayed put at Leeds this summer in pursuit of a first-team place. This was after spending the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff.
However, the 21-year-old hasn’t managed to failed to oust Rasmus Kristensen or Luke Ayling in the pecking order.
Indeed, Jesse Marsch left Drameh out of the matchday squad altogether for Leeds v Manchester City earlier this week.
This has led to speculation linking Drameh with a January exit. There have been links with the likes of Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Dortmund.
‘We’re in a good place now with Cody’
Marsch, speaking to ahead of the Whites’ Premier League trip to St James’ Park, was asked about Drameh’s future.
The media outlet asked him: “At what point do you have to start playing him and putting him in squads to convince him that he should stay as you’ve alluded you want him to?”
Marsch responded: “It’s a good question. I mean, I like Rasmus and Luke a lot, too.
“It’s interesting. We had Cody in at the end of last year and he wasn’t convinced that this was going to be the right place for him to come back.
“Then he came into pre-season, and then he’s kind of worked through the year with the 21s a lot. I think the idea of being here has grown on him a lot.
“Maybe it could have gone differently if that feeling was there from the beginning. But we’re in a good place now with Cody and I like him a lot.
“I think he’s committing to this at the highest level. We have to figure out what that means and how we continue to have him as part of our group and in the long term vision, I want them to be here. Period.”

Drameh’s contract expires in the summer of 2024. This puts Leeds in a bit of a difficult situation in terms of how many cards they hold.
And with the ‘frightening‘ talent getting so little game time amid interest from big clubs, it’s not looking great for Leeds right now.
At this point, it’s not so much whether Leeds give Drameh a chance, but whether Drameh will give Marsch another chance.
The defender could well just decide to seek a move away in January. But he could also stick it out until the end of the season.
