‘He was unbelievable’… Jamie Carragher names the former Manchester United player he thinks is so underrated
Jamie Carragher has now been sharing his verdict on a player who was heavily underrated during his time at Manchester United.
Carragher certainly had a few duels with Sir Alex Ferguson’s United sides over the years, as he often enjoys recalling with Gary Neville.

And it may seem odd to suggest that any of the players in those Premier League winning sides were underrated, they simply won so much.
But when you consider the stars United had, the likes of Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, just to name a few, it’s easy to see how a strong player could be forgotten.
And when speaking on the ‘’ podcast, Jamie Carragher actually thought David Beckham didn’t always get the credit he deserved.
The pundit pointed to the 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich as a good example.
Both Paul Scholes and Roy Keane missed the game, and Carragher thought Beckham stood up huge.
However, the pundit wasn’t always sure it was remembered that way by fans today.
Jamie Carragher says David Beckham was hugely underrated at Manchester United
Speaking on the podcast, Carragher explained that he often watched that final back.
He said: “I watched that game back for a book I did two or three years ago and Beckham was unbelievable in that game.

“I never feel like Beckham gets the respect he deserves as a player because of all the off the pitch stuff.
“His performance that night because Roy was out, Scholes was out, the responsibility he took that night in terms of dictating the play, knocking long passes, he was all over the pitch.”
Of course, there are merits to Carragher’s words.
Beckham was brilliant at United, but his football was often forgotten amid how much of a superstar he was off of the pitch too.
And given that, Carragher’s ‘underrated’ title does seem to fit for his time at Manchester United, and perhaps even beyond.
Either way, Beckham will always be a household name, but perhaps not just for the reasons Carragher mentioned.
That being said, Roy Keane recently decided the best finisher he ever played with at Old Trafford.
