‘He was outstanding’… Danny Murphy claims one Man United player blew him away vs Aston Villa

After a brilliant comeback for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United side against Aston Villa yesterday, Danny Murphy was amazed by one individual.

Things looked bleak for United when 2-0 down against Unai Emery’s impressive outfit yesterday, however, their second half performance could now prove transformative.

Man United fans have been desperate for their side to show energy and creativity in their performances, and that was all delivered yesterday.

Both Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund made huge improvements with their individual performances, however it was a different Man United player who impressed Danny Murphy against Villa.

Speaking on the BBC’s , Murphy thought Alejandro Garnacho was the embodiment of United’s change.

Murphy said: “Collectively the urgency and intensity was better.

“Individually I thought the quality and game intelligence was much better to overcome that Aston Villa high line. Especially from Garnacho. I thought he was outstanding.

“Playing on the right hand side, where he’d been switched to bring Rashford in. He looked more comfortable, more productive.

“Rashford looked happy, they were at it second half. The body language was different from both of them, more at it.

“And Garnacho was really intense with his play, direct. He was outstanding and United deserve a lot of credit.”

Of course, if any United player was going to inspire a turnaround in form, it did look like it would be Garnacho.

Despite all of their woes this season, the 19-year-old has maintained a level of enthusiasm and energy in his performances.

He’s far from the finished article, but Garnacho seems able to ignore the pressure at the club, playing with freedom on the wing.

That being said, the Argentinian was playing in a slightly different role on the right-side yesterday.

Rashford’s return to the side inspired the switch, and the two seemed to have a strong understanding as the game reached the latter stages.

Murphy thought Garnacho was the catalyst for Man United against Villa, and it’s quite hard to disagree with his position.

Although delighted with the win, Erik ten Hag will probably be quick to remind his squad that this win means very little if it doesn’t now inspire a period of consistency.

Despite all of United’s troubles this season, they have still managed big performances and wins on occasion.

However, when his side travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, who also enjoyed an empathic win yesterday, United fans will want to see further evidence of progress.

That being said, it seems one very important figure could be about to depart United in January.
