Micah Richards says there’s something ‘people don’t understand’ about Angel Gomes at Manchester United
Angel Gomes is very much one of the big plus points to emerge from Lee Carsley’s short time in charge of the England squad so far.
Gomes has been deployed by Carsley in the middle of the park and he returned to the XI against Finland to influence a big 3-1 win for the Three Lions.
In that game, Gomes assisted Jack Grealish brilliantly and once again showed why he could be a sound option for the future.
After his performance for England, Ian Wright suggested we see more of Gomes in bigger games to test him.
And following on from that praise, Micah Richards has now said that people don’t actually realise why Gomes is as good as he is on the ball.

Micah Richards makes point about Angel Gomes’ time at Manchester United
Speaking about Gomes on the latest episode of the podcast, Richards claimed that people are only just realising that Gomes wasn’t always a midfielder.
“He got a load of assists last season. I remember after one of the European nights, I did mention him. He’s silky on the ball. What people don’t understand, he was never a holding midfielder,” Richards said.
“When he was at Man United, he was a winger or forward midfielder, and now he has sort of been moulded into this role. In the French league, he is one of the best players in Ligue 1 without doubt.
“In international football, he looks calm and composed.”
Gomes a star of the future
While Angel Gomes is getting minutes over in France and playing well for England as well, there will come a time when he needs a move to a bigger club.
A switch back to England at some point seems to be the logical step for him, especially if he wants to keep his place for England under whoever the new manager is going to be.
Right now, things are going well for Gomes and there’s no reason for him to leave Ligue 1.
But in the future, Gomes will want to challenge himself further and that could mean a move back to England, potentially even with his former club Man United.
