‘He was in my head’… Levi Colwill ranks Chelsea’s top striker target just behind Erling Haaland
Ivan Toney will surely be on Chelsea’s radar this summer.
The Blues drew a blank in front of goal again on Sunday, but this one hurt more than most.
Chelsea lost 1-0 to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, but this was against an injury-hit and very inexperienced Liverpool side by the end.
This was a game Chelsea should have seized but they instead fell to a Virgil van Dijk header late in extra time.
It’s hard to view this as anything but a missed opportunity and not having a proven goalscorer to put the ball in the net will again be raised as the crucial problem.
Levi Colwill on Ivan Toney
Chelsea has splashed the cash under Todd Boehly but have to strike another big deal this summer.
A new striker simply has to arrive and that Brentford forward Ivan Toney is their top target.
Toney returned from a ban in January and has already hit four goals, proving his goalscoring abilities once again.
Chelsea may well move for Toney and one man who would surely be delighted is defender Levi Colwill.
, Colwill picked out Toney as the hardest Premier League striker to defend outside of Erling Haaland.

Colwill couldn’t believe that Conor Gallagher forgot him talking about Toney, noting that the Brentford man was in his head all game when they met last season.
Colwill was on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion back then, but admitted that he learned so much just from one game against Toney.
“I’ve literally had this conversation with you so many times,” said Colwill. “I had a tough game against him last year, one of my worst games. He was in my head the whole game.”
“Yeah, he was in my head. That was my first season in the Prem and I’d never really played against that; I learned a lot in that game anyway,” he added when asked if Toney was speaking to him throughout.
Colwill clearly hasn’t forgotten his first run-in with Toney and he would no doubt prefer to have him as a team-mate rather than as an opponent.
It’s now over to Chelsea to make that happen, with a hefty fee no doubt needed in order to convince the Bees to sell.
