‘He was brilliant’: Cillian Sheridan says 24-year-old Celtic player was simply amazing vs St Johnstone
Celtic’s win over St Johnstone really was a game of two halves at McDiarmid Park yesterday afternoon.
A poor 45 first-half minutes was addressed by Brendan Rodgers at halftime as he rollicked his players for their performance and in the second half, coupled with some wily substitutions, turned the game and Celtic came from 1-0 down to win 3-1 and keep their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership intact.
But there was one player in particular who shone for Cillian Sheridan yesterday afternoon. The former Celtic striker was blown away by Mikey Johnston as the Celtic winger made a huge impact after coming on after the break.
Sheridan said [], “He was brilliant. He was just so direct. He was just so direct getting past the fullbacks and just putting balls into the box.
“And he was positive even when he switched over to the left wing he continued the same way.”
Mikey Johnston’s incredible Celtic stats vs St Johnstone
In the 45 minutes he was on the pitch, the Republic of Ireland winger was absolutely brilliant.
Rated 7.2 by , Johnston had 41 touches of the ball with a 100% passing accuracy. The 24-year-old put eight crosses into the box as he did his best to break down a stubborn St Johnstone defence.
Johnston also made two key passes and had a shot on goal as Celtic ran out eventual 3-1 winners.
The St Johnstone performance is surely one that puts him in contention to start against Hibs on Wednesday night.
Brendan Rodgers was delighted with Mikey Johnston’s Celtic display
The Celtic manager was over the moon with Johnston’s substitute performance yesterday. Rodgers said that the winger was ‘excellent’ and was particularly impressed with Johnston having the confidence to take on his defender in one v one situations.

To be fair to Johnston, in the limited amount of time he has had on the pitch this season, only the Hibs game was his most disappointing.
Giving away possession needlessly in the capital, it was great to see Johnston help Celtic be relentless by not giving away the ball once against the Perth side.
Could the winger do a Liam Scales and come in from the cold and become an important first-team player this season?
Let’s see how he does against Hibs on Wednesday if selected, as the Celtic fans look forward to seeing the team carry on from where they left off at McDiarmid Park.
