‘He was brilliant’… Aaron Lennon names his favourite manager during his time at Tottenham
Aaron Lennon played under a number of different managers during his time at Tottenham.
From Martin Jol all the way to Mauricio Pochettino, Lennon saw a lot of change during his time at Spurs.
Speaking on the , the winger has been discussing who his favourite manager was at Tottenham, and he gave a very interesting answer.
Lennon perhaps hit his highest highs under Harry Redknapp’s tutelage, but according to Lennon, his favourite gaffer was Andre Villas-Boas, claiming that the Portuguese coach had fantastic man-management techniques.

Villas-Boas was Aaron Lennon’s favourite manager
Lennon spoke about the former Tottenham boss.
“I would say I had a few favourites, I loved Martin Jol, he was great the first time he got here, but I would say I played my best stuff under AVB. He was a fantastic man manager he was brilliant with me and you remember Daws, the lads absolutely loved him. He was a young manager and he put his arm around the XI. He’s probably nicked it as my favourite,” Lennon said.
Didn’t work out
It’s really interesting to hear Lennon speak about Villas-Boas in this way.
The winger says that everyone in the Tottenham squad loved Villas-Boas, but he was sacked just 18 months into his role at the north London club.
Sadly, it really didn’t work out for Villas-Boas at Tottenham, and despite landing huge jobs at Chelsea and Spurs in his early days as a coach, the Portuguese gaffer has never quite fulfilled his potential in management.
Villas-Boas is almost easy to forget as a Spurs manager as he had to take charge of the team in such a period of transition.
Perhaps this was a case of the right man at the wrong time for Tottenham.
