‘He took it really personally’… PL striker says it’s funny how offended Spurs star got by what he did recently
Neal Maupay has shared his verdict on how James Maddison reacted to his darts celebration against Tottenham Hotspur in Brentford’s recent defeat in North London.
Neal Maupay certainly knows how to push the buttons of opponents quite like few others in the Premier League. In fact, he is potentially one of the only players who seems to unite both sides of North London.
It was Maupay who injured Bernd Leno in 2020 before getting involved in a scrap with Matteo Guendouzi when Brighton faced Arsenal.

And the 27-year-old managed to annoy many Spurs fans, and James Maddison, by replicating Maddison’s celebration after giving Brentford the lead at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January.

Tottenham had the last laugh on the night, with Ange Postecoglou’s side coming back to win 3-2 against the Bees.
Maddison poked fun at Maupay on Instagram after the victory. And Maupay has now commented on Maddison’s reaction in an interview with .
“He took it really personally, it’s funny,” he said. “I threw a dart and he got so offended he posted my picture on his Instagram. But if I give a little something, I have got to be able to take it as well.”
Spurs were thrown off their game
It was definitely a brave move to use Maddison’s celebration, particularly when it was so early in the game. But Brentford definitely appeared determined to wind Tottenham up in that first-half.
They were wasting time from the very early stages. And you could feel the tension building inside the ground.
That was definitely sparked by Maupay’s goal and his celebration. And it seemed to be working for a while as Spurs really took their time to hit their stride.
But obviously, it came back to haunt Brentford, as much as Maupay can argue that he found Maddison’s reaction funny.
