‘He thoroughly deserves it’ – Celtic star Callum McGregor tips Player of the Year rival James Forrest to scoop top award
Callum McGregor believes his Celtic team-mate James Forrest “thoroughly deserves” the Player of the Year accolade, .
Celtic will name their Player of the Year soon and it is believed to be a two-horse race between McGregor and Forrest for the top award.
Both players have been exceptional as the Bhoys aim for their third consecutive domestic treble. But McGregor admitted that Forrest’s ability to deliver in top games could tip it for him.
Forrest scored the opening goal in Celtic’s semi-final win over Aberdeen with a superb turn and long-range strike. McGregor was impressed with that goal and singled Forrest out for praise.

: “I think he’s just won it with that wonder goal! I’m claiming the assist on it. James has been outstanding again and he has been playing at a real top level for the last two or three years, internationally too.
“Again today, another semi-final, he turns up with a big performance and a big goal for us to help us settle into the game. If I win it or Jamesy wins it we’ll be delighted, but if he wins it then he’s been outstanding and he thoroughly deserves it.
“He delivers in the big moments. That sums James up exactly. The top players have got calmness in those big moments when everything is frantic all round about them.”
Whoever ends up winning this out of McGregor and Forrest will be worthy winners. Celtic need to ensure both players are tied down for the long-term future as they are key players.
