Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Enzo Fernandez asked to be substituted against Newcastle United last night because he was unwell.

Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez asked to be subbed off
Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez was a doubt for the game last night due to illness.
The Argentine, who didn’t start the game against Sheffield United at the weekend, was given the nod by Mauricio Pochettino when Newcastle came to town last night.
Fernadez was clearly struggling, and after just 32 minutes on the pitch, he was withdrawn and replaced by Armando Broja.
Chelsea fans were worried that Fernandez suffered an injury, but Pochettino confirmed after the game that he was just unwell. The Blues boss also revealed that it was the midfielder who asked to come off as he was unable to continue.
Speaking in his press conference after the win, Pochettino said, as per : “He asked to go out because he was a little bit sick before the game.
“He suffered some problems with his stomach. He wanted to play, he said, ‘okay, see if it’s going well’. Rather than well it went not so well and that is why.”

Chelsea have a great chance of winning the Carabao Cup
Despite their shocking start to the season, Chelsea are in a great position of winning silverware.
The Blues are now in the semi-finals of the competition, and the two teams who have qualified along with them are Fulham and Middlesbrough. One of Liverpool and West Ham United will make it through to the semis after their game tonight.
Jurgen Klopp‘s side, if they do get to the semi-finals, will be the favourites, but anything can happen at Wembley, and Chelsea should back themselves.
It will be interesting to see what will happen in the Carabao Cup, but winning the competition would ease a lot of pressure off Pochettino’s shoulders.
