‘He showed’: Antonio Conte says he can rely on £25m Tottenham man after ‘really good’ performance vs Brighton

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has told that he can rely on Ryan Sessegnon after a ‘really good’ performance against Brighton.

Sessegnon joined Spurs back in 2019 as he made the switch from Fulham for a fee worth £25 million (). It’s been far from plain sailing for the 22-year-old as he struggled with recurring injuries at the start of his Tottenham career.

But the wing-back has been putting in some much-improved displays ever since Conte took over last year. And Sessegnon was back in the starting XI in the 1-0 win over Brighton yesterday.

He was handed the after an assured display from left wing-back. 

Now Conte has also heaped praise on Sessegnon and says the youngster has earned his trust.

Conte can rely on Sessegnon

, Conte was asked about the performances of Sessegnon, Yves Bissouma and Matt Doherty.  

The Italian feels Sessegnon is improving massively under his guidance and yesterday’s display certainly backs this claim up.

“I’m happy because today Matt played his first of the season, finally,” Conte said.

“Sessegnon played a really good game, he showed that he’s a reliable player. He’s a really young player but he’s improving a lot.

“Yves played from the start and he played a good game.”

Sessegnon has been battling it out with summer signing Ivan Perisic for a spot in Conte’s side this season.

The England U21 international was dropped to the bench for both of Tottenham’s previous games against Arsenal and Frankfurt over the past week. But the youngster certainly made an impression last night as he replaced Perisic in the left wing-back role.

Sessegnon will be hoping to nail down a place in the Spurs side after an eye-catching performance last night.
