‘He really is a Gunner’: Some Arsenal fans react to what reported £40m target did on Saturday

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Emiliano Buendia’s red-card incident on Saturday.

reported in December that the Norwich ace was on Arsenal’s transfer shortlist and that manager Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of the player.

Speculation linking Arsenal and Buendia was high at the beginning of the January window, but subsequent reports poured cold water on any hopes of a move this month.

Given Norwich are fighting for promotion back to the Premier League, selling Buendia now would be incredibly counter-productive for them and thus unlikely.

In addition, the 24-year-old is reported to have a £40million price tag, a huge sum to pay mid-season during a particularly difficult window given current events.

According to a report from 20 January, Buendia is not expecting a January move and is happy to wait until the summer before deciding his future.

The Argentine has made 24 appearances this season, 22 in the Championship, and has registered seven goals and seven assists in the league.

However, his afternoon against Middlesbrough at Carrow Road didn’t go to plan as he received his marching orders midway through the second half.

Buendia was shown a second yellow card for a lunge on George Saville in the 67th minute, leaving the leaders to play the final quarter of the game with 10 men.

The decision proved controversial, with thinking it was harsh.
