‘He needs to be tied down’: Liverpool urged to agree ‘vital’ contract for linked-away star
John Aldridge has urged Liverpool in his column for the to negotiate a new contract for Mohamed Salah or to sell the winger this summer.
Salah has 24-months remaining on the signed in 2018 as a reward for his debut season at Anfield. The Egyptian scored Premier League games following a £34million () move from Roma, plus eleven assists.
He has since scored at least 19 goals and played 34 games in each top-flight season spent on Merseyside. But his future at Liverpool has been thrown into doubt with interest from Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG view Salah as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, yet claim Liverpool would demand at least €80m (£69m). Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Salah and hopes he would consider a move after four years in England.

“I suspect they are already working on transfers behind the scenes to add to the early capture of Konate from RB Leipzig,” Aldridge .
“Resolving the future of Mo Salah is vital this summer, too. He needs to be tied down to a long-term contract. Or else allowed to leave for a big transfer fee that would swell Liverpool’s coffers.
“Anfield’s bosses also need to get Alisson and [Virgil] Van Dijk tied down to new deals, with money generated from qualifying for the Champions League next season covering the cost of those new contracts.”
TBR’s view: Liverpool need a decision on Salah
Liverpool need to make a decision on Salah and his future at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp. The Reds would lose a big part of their plans by selling the winger. But the funds from his exit would allow the German boss to strengthen multiple positions.
The Anfield natives will not want Salah to run his contract down to its final 12-months in a years’ time. They will be loath to do so and allow his value to reduce in case he has a poor 2021/22 season after losing form at times last term.
Extending his contract would allow Liverpool to better protect that value if they are not prepared to sell this summer. And PSG may only step up their interest with an offer – however close to their valuation – if Mbappe leaves, anyway.
