‘He loves him’… Ange Postecoglou is actually a huge fan of £10m Tottenham player

Alasdair Gold has claimed that Ange Postecoglou is a huge admirer of Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies.

Speaking on the , the Football.London journalist discussed Ben Davies’ recent run in the side.

The Welshman has stepped into Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI in recent weeks after the injury to Micky van de Ven. With the Dutchman expected to be out until the new year, Davies has enjoyed a run in the side of late.

The 30-year-old has played alongside Emerson Royal, Eric Dier and Cristian Romero since Van de Ven’s injury last month.

It’s fair to say that Davies has performed well as a make-shift centre-back and will be looking to form a partnership with Romero over the coming weeks.

And it seems that Postecoglou is a huge fan of the dependable Davies.

Postecoglou is a huge fan of Davies

Speaking on his latest podcast episode, Gold claimed that Postecoglou ‘loves’ Davies as a player.

“I thought Ben Davies played very well again, he definitely looks so much more comfortable understandably alongside a natural centre-back and Postecoglou loves Ben Davies,” the journalist said.

“He was talking even after the game about he’s essentially had to turn Ben Davies into a centre-back this season. He’s just kind of come in, no fuss, done what he’s had to do, as Ben Davies said he’s played with loads of different people in the role.

“He’s played with Dier, Emerson, Van de Ven briefly, obviously Romero back now, he’s never had a settled partner.

“We’ll have to see what happens with Van de Ven, it could potentially be mid to late January that he’s back if he remains on track and Romero and Davies, as long as Romero doesn’t get another red card or this fifth yellow card because he’s now on four, then they might get a little together as a partnership.”

Davies has divided opinion amongst the Tottenham faithful over the past few years, with some believing he should have been moved on some time ago.

But the man has proven to be a reliable performer under a host of managers now and he’s such a handy player to have in the squad.

While he’s rarely a standout performer, the Welsh international has barely put a foot wrong since coming back into the side this season.

There’s no doubt that losing Van de Ven was a huge blow for Spurs. But after the return of Romero, Tottenham could have a settled centre-back pairing until the Dutchman returns.
