‘He is taking a big chance’: Manager lauds Liverpool’s ‘competitor’ after loan transfer
Livingston manager David Martindale has sung the praises of Adam Lewis after the arrival of the Liverpool defender on loan for the 2021/22 season.
Lewis spent last term between spells at Ligue 2 outfit Amiens and joining League One side Plymouth Argyle in January. He made a combined in all competitions and scored his for the Pilgrims.
The left-back added a brace of assists to his Plymouth record to inspire a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers in March, as well. While Lewis’ move to Amiens marked his first transfer away from Anfield since joining Liverpool’s academy.

Lewis will hope to feature regularly for Livingston next season. Having joined a side who finished last term sixth in the Premiership and whose manager has been full of praise.
“I am excited to bring a player of Adam’s quality in to the club,” Martindale . “From the first phone call that led to me researching the player, I have had nothing but positivity about the lad. I really like what I have seen from the footage and the opinions I have had back on the player have all been very good.
“Adam can play anywhere on the left-hand side but has played a lot at left-back. I think with the qualities he possesses, we will see him higher up the park influencing the game in the opponent’s half.
“He has a great left foot and can look after the ball in tight situations. He is a competitor with a will to win and fits right into the ethos at the club. [And] he is taking a big chance by moving his young family up to Scotland which speaks volumes for the lad.”
TBR’s view: Lewis needs to impress Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp handed Lewis his Liverpool against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup in February 2020. But it remains the 21-year-old’s only senior outing for the Reds to date. The left-back was left an unused substitute in his only other matchday involvement in 2019.
The former England youth international will now need to impress Liverpool and Klopp to earn a greater future role. He is heading in the right direction, though, having moved up from the French second-tier and English third-tier to the Scottish top-flight in a year.
Martindale should offer Lewis plenty of opportunities to establish himself at the Almondvale Stadium, as well, given his vivid praise.
