‘He is more than capable’: Barry Ferguson thinks Rangers have a great 19-year-old in their ranks
Glasgow Rangers icon Barry Ferguson has spoken highly of Ibrox academy ace Nathan Patterson in his latest column.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a great breakthrough year at Rangers, beginning with his exploits during the winter break training camp in Dubai.
Patterson has made for the Light Blues to date, Steven Gerrard naming him in multiple matchday squads.
The youngster’s latest appearance came in Thursday night’s Europa League group win at Lech Poznan, deputising for Rangers captain James Tavernier at right-back.
And Ferguson was pleased with what he saw from Patterson in the game, as well as his overall progress in recent months.
“Thursday was a good opportunity to have a good look at Nathan Patterson – what an experience for the young lad,” he wrote in the .
“He did well and it will stand him in good stead. He will know now exactly what it takes to be a regular fixture in that team.
“I have heard plenty of positive things about him but you need to see it with your own eyes. Youngsters need to see how the big ball bounces when they go into the first team environment.
“That’s a couple of occasions he has now shown he is more than capable and it’s up to him to push on and show he can do it regularly because nothing is earned over a couple of games.”

Patterson has been making waves at Rangers this year, a young full-back who’s shown he’s a cut above in terms of talent and work ethic.
Although he’s having to bide his time given his competition at right-back is the club captain and a legend in the making, he’s bound to get a lot more game time in a busy campaign where silverware is looking closer than ever.
