‘He is built for this team’… Jermaine Jenas tells Chelsea to sign £80m striker in January

Jermaine Jenas has given his verdict on whether or not Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea should sign Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder believes that Toney would be perfect for Chelsea.

So, what has Jermaine Jenas said about Chelsea and Ivan Toney? Let’s take a look.

Jermaine Jenas tells Chelsea to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney

Well, Jermaine Jenas has urged Chelsea to sign Ivan Toney. The former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United midfielder believes that the striker is built for the way that the Blues play under head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Toney has been linked with Chelsea. reported in November that Chelsea are ready to try to sign the 27-year-old striker in the January transfer window.

The report noted that Brentford want as much as £80 million in transfer fees for Toney. Arsenal have also been linked with the striker. There is speculation that Tottenham Hotspur want him as well.

Jenas said on : “Ivan Toney, I think he is built for this team, Ivan Toney, personally, the way that they play. He would be the one that I would, yeah definitely, go for if I were the manager.”

My View: Chelsea need to be cautious with Ivan Toney

In my view, Chelsea should not rush into making a bid for Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.

While I do think that Toney is a good striker, I believe that Chelsea need to be careful about spending £80 million on the 27-year-old.

That is a lot of money to pay for a player who has not played in the UEFA Champions League or for an ‘elite’ club.

Chelsea aim to eventually win the Premier League and become competitive in the UEFA Champions League, just as they had been over the years.

Is Toney really the striker who could lead Chelsea to UEFA Champions League glory in the next two or three years? I do not think so.
