‘He doesn’t know’: £20m Tottenham player has no idea if he’ll be staying at Spurs now
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was brilliant for Tottenham on Monday evening as Spurs beat Fulham 2-0.
The north London club had to turn to the Dane due to the fact Yves Bissouma was out with injury, and while Hojbjerg hasn’t played much football this season, he really stepped up against Fulham.
Hojbjerg was the centre of a lot of transfer speculation in the summer as Spurs looked to trim the fat off their squad, and according to Football.London’s Lee Wilmot, there are still some doubts around his future.
Indeed, speaking on the , Wilmot stated that Hojbjerg still doesn’t know if his long-term future is at Spurs.
Hojbjerg doesn’t know if he’s staying
Wilmot spoke about the man’s future and his performance on Monday.
“Hojbjerg showed what a class individual he is really. He came in and gave it 100% even though he doesn’t know if his long-term future is at the club. He’s aware that Bissouma is the favoured man for Ange Postecoglou in that role,” Wilmot said.
“I can’t fault Hojbjerg and his professionalism.”
Hojbjerg earning his stripes
The midfielder did look as though he would be surplus to requirements at Tottenham this season, but, against Fulham, he proved that he could still have a part to play in this Tottenham side.
Yes, he’s not going to be first-choice ahead of Yves Bissouma, but if Spurs are serious about mounting a title challenge this season, they will need strength in depth, and Hojbjerg is the type of player who is so handy to have on the bench.
If he keeps playing like this, Tottenham may have to reconsider their stance on the midfielder’s future.
Don’t be too shocked if Hojbjerg ends up staying at Tottenham beyond this season, because he’s still a valuable player.
