Hasenhuttl reacts to Liverpool loanee Takumi Minamino’s Southampton debut
Ralph Hasenhuttl has suggested that Takumi Minamino was as good on his Southampton debut as he hoped he would be, and expressed his disappointment that the Liverpool loanee cannot play in their next game – .
Minamino made his bow for the Saints at Newcastle on Saturday. Ultimately, it proved to be a disappointing afternoon for Hasenhuttl’s side.

They lost 3-2 despite the Magpies ending the game with nine men. Minamino however, provided a reason for optimism with his contribution.
The 26-year-old scored a superb goal to open his account for the Saints.
He is, of course, unavailable for their FA Cup tie with Wolves this week. And Hasenhuttl suggested that he would have loved to have picked him following his debut performance.

“I was hoping that he would give me the quality that he has shown in the first game,” he said, . “It was not an easy one, especially on the second half when there was a lot of rain and it was perhaps not the best turf for him to show his quick play and his decision making.
“He showed during the first half that he can play and he can help us in the ten position. We have a long injury with Theo Walcott so we needed to do something in this position.
“I am happy that we brought him in, he is not allowed to play in the cup which is a big pity but on Sunday he is back and he can hopefully play in a good shape.”
Minamino has been on Liverpool’s books for just over a year. And yet, it already feels like his time at Southampton could be pivotal if he hopes to make the grade at Anfield.
He is not exactly a young player. So if he does not stand out while on the south coast, it may be a somewhat ominous sign for his Liverpool future.
The good news is he is off to an extremely bright start. And with some really exciting attacking players around him, there is definitely a good chance that he can prove a point to Jurgen Klopp while away.
