Has Tottenham star Lucas Moura suggested contract rebels could now remain at Spurs?
Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura seems to be one of the real winners from Jose Mourinho’s appointment as manager. Under Mauricio Pochettino, the Brazilian was in and out of the side – but under Mourinho, he has started both games.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star has repaid Mourinho, scoring against West Ham at the weekend before laying on an assist for Harry Kane’s first goal on Tuesday night in the 4-2 comeback win over Olympiacos.
The 27-year-old is being used in his correct position of right wing, something which was less frequent under Pochettino. He is loving life under Mourinho, but he may not be the only one that is enjoying the change of management.
Moura was asked about the morale under the ex-Man United boss, especially with the contract situations surrounding Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. Many reckon those situations had a poor effect in the changing room.
Speaking as a collective including Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Eriksen, Moura responded by saying that the entire squad is “optimistic” under Mourinho and that “we” believe in his job –
“Everyone is happy, everyone is optimistic and step by step we are knowing him and putting his philosophy,” . “He is a winner, a champion. He has a lot of trophies and I am sure he has much to add to our team, our club. Everyone is optimistic with him and we believe in his job.”
Could Moura’s comments suggest that those who have been linked with an exit – Alderweireld, Eriksen, Vertonghen, even Danny Rose – could now be tempted to remain at the club and sign new contracts following the appointment of Mourinho?
Indeed, Alderweireld has been much more active on social media since the appointment of Mourinho – and he has shown more passion when celebrating goals. Eriksen was excellent when he came on for Eric Dier on Tuesday, creating Kane’s second.
Vertonghen has remained on the bench, while Rose made mistakes on Tuesday. But Moura’s comments certainly suggest that even the wantaway, contract rebels of Tottenham’s side are “optimistic” and “happy” under Mourinho.
