Has Robbie Gotts increased likelihood of Leeds role next season?

Of all the Leeds United players out on loan, Robbie Gotts is perhaps in with the best chance of putting himself in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans upon his return.

Gotts has only made a couple of appearances for the Whites first-team to date. But he is clearly a player that Bielsa sees a lot of potential in.

The 21-year-old was on the bench 35 times before he made his debut. And that senior bow came in the FA Cup tie at Arsenal at the start of last year.

Had Leeds missed out on promotion last season, it is surely not unreasonable to assume that Gotts could have found himself receiving plenty more opportunities.

However, with the Whites sealing promotion, a loan move seemed to make sense. And after initially struggling for game-time with Lincoln City, Gotts dropped down to League Two to join Salford in January.

The youngster has already made more starts for Richie Wellens’s side than he had done in the first-half of the campaign.

Gotts adds another string to his bow

So it appears that there is every chance of his time at Salford being looked back upon as a successful spell. And perhaps, Wellens’s use of Gotts in recent weeks may actually only increase the likelihood of the starlet finding himself in Bielsa’s plans next season.

Gotts has featured in attacking midfield for Salford’s last four league games. They have taken seven points from those games, with Gotts scoring against Cambridge.

He has previously demonstrated his quality going forward for the under-23s. But in more recent years, he has featured at right-back or in central midfield.

He is adding another string to his bow right now. And if there is one guaranteed way for a youngster to increase their chances of forcing their way into Bielsa’s plans, it is showcasing versatility.

Gotts therefore, now looks set to return to Elland Road with the ability to stake a stronger claim for more chances.
