Has Alexis Sanchez already agreed a move from Arsenal to Manchester City?

Chilean source  quote respected journalist Fernando Solabarrieta as claiming that Arsenal’s star man Alexis Sanchez has reportedly agreed a deal to take him to Manchester City in what would be a controversial transfer keeping him in the Premier League.

Speculation has surrounded the forward’s future for months now, with no new contract yet signed and only one year to go before it expires. There is no doubt that a number of teams are interested, with City and Bayern Munich amongst them, but is it premature to speak of an agreement?

What would he bring to the Etihad?

A proven goalscorer in the Premier League with experience playing under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, this move would likely see Sanchez return to a role on the wing. Rotating with the likes of Raheem Sterling, it may be a case of cutting inside more than playing as a central role given the presence of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

Few players in England have more quality than the ex-Udinese forward and it would not only be a quality addition, but a real statement of intent by Manchester City. By poaching a key player from title rivals, City would put themselves in a strong position for next season.

Is a move likely?

With just one year left on his current contract, Arsenal could be forced to sell this summer. However, they are hugely reluctant to do so and retain hopes of agreeing a contract extension.

That said, Sanchez cut a frustrated figure throughout much of the season at the Emirates as he seemed fed up with his team-mates and Arsenal’s inconsistent form which cost them a top four place.

The  claim that the Citizens are prepared to make the Chilean the club’s highest ever paid player with wages of £275,000 per week. Such an offer, alongside the opportunity to compete for trophies and in the Champions League, could be too good to turn down.
