Has Aaron Cresswell been frozen out of West Ham picture?

Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku have been in fierce competition for the left-back position at West Ham in the past year, but it seems like the latter has the edge under manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Masuaku has completed 90 minutes in all but one of the Premier League games so far this season and is showing steady signs of improvement.

The 24-year-old speed machine is becoming more defensively astute under Pellegrini and is a mainstay in the starting XI right now.

But that is bad news for teammate Cresswell, who appears to be becoming frozen out by the manager.

The 28-year-old doesn’t quite possess the pace of counterpart Masuaku and has made just three appearances in all competitions this campaign, with two of them coming in the Carabao Cup.

Cresswell looks unlikely to break back into the team in the near future and may have to be content with a fringe role in the squad.

He was an assist-maker for the Hammers in the 2017/18 campaign, setting up seven goals directly from defence and can be a threat from set-pieces.

The three-time capped England international has the versatility to play full-back or as a centre-back in a back three, but it is beginning to become clear that he’s the understudy to Masuaku at left-back under Pellegrini.
