Harry Redknapp shares whether he feels Tottenham should’ve signed Timo Werner

Harry Redknapp has backed Tottenham Hotspur’s surprise move for former Chelsea star Timo Werner.

The former Spurs boss has been speaking about Timo Werner’s proposed switch to Tottenham.

Werner looks set to complete a loan move to Spurs over the coming days, with Fabrizio Romano claiming the striker was en route to his medical on Tuesday morning.

It’s a move that came out of nowhere as Spurs weren’t previously linked with the German international.

The 27-year-old will sign on an initial six-month loan deal, with Tottenham having the option to make the move permanent over the summer.

Now, former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has delivered his verdict on the move.

Redknapp delivers verdict on Timo Werner to Tottenham

Speaking on , Redknapp admitted that moving for Werner is a ‘gamble’ from Tottenham’s point of view.

But the former Spurs man can certainly see the logic behind the move.

He said: “On a loan, you’re not breaking the bank bringing him in. I think for that money, he’s well worth taking a chance with until the end of the season.

“His movement is good, he’s lightning quick. He should hold his runs more, he runs offside too much and his finishing could be better.

“Having said all that, I still think it’s well worth a short-term gamble.”

We’d have to agree with Redknapp’s verdict. While Werner struggled during his spell at Chelsea, he could prove to be a useful option for Postecoglou over the coming weeks.

Indeed, Heung-Min Son could be at the Asian Cup until mid-February, while Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon remain sidelined.

Werner will provide competition across the frontline, as well as exceptional pace and a tireless work rate.

That should lend itself well to Ange Postecoglou’s style of football and Spurs will be hopeful the Aussie can revitalise his career in north London.

But should Werner struggle at Spurs, it’s a relatively low-risk move as they can simply opt to not take up the option to buy the forward.
